Rather than create a Twitter thread this year, I thought it best to collate my Grammy Awards 2022 predictions here where I have written thousands of words about this award show before. There’s some commentary with some of the categories, but don’t be expecting much of this to be at all accurate, my track record …
The Beatles (The White Album) – The Beatles – 1968 Claimed Sales: 19m First listen?: Yes Format Listened?: Apple Music The White Album is a daunting prospect for a new listener. Thirty songs split over two records that last over 90 minutes when combined, it’s certainly a far cry from the conciseness of their previous album Sgt … Continue reading
Rubber Soul marks the true turning point in the career of The Beatles. Fresh off a series of soundtrack albums for films starring the band, it’s the first true ‘album’ they released and all but changed the format for good. There’s certainly big hit-worthy singles on here, but it’s much more of a single body of work than anyone would have expected from the boys just two years after Beatlemania. Continue reading
We are exactly 7 months into the eligibility period for the 2019 Grammy Awards which means it’s probably time to look at the early favourites for music’s biggest night. I’ve successfully posted one of these articles in each of the last 4 years with varying degrees of success, my prediction that the Frozen soundtrack would … Continue reading
I have managed to post just one of these Definitive Ranking articles in each of the last 4 years, at least I’m consistently slow! In a bid to bring this type of article back to life I’m looking at one of Pop music’s most well known, most divisive and most successful recording artists. Taylor Swift … Continue reading
It’s the biggest award of the night and often becomes the most memorable moment of any Grammys telecast. Moments like Arcade Fire taking a surprise win here, or Adele’s reluctance to even accept the award over Beyonce last year have been some of the most memorable times for me. This year is one of the strongest sets of albums in recent memory, with not a single dud in sight. Could it be one of the tightest Album of the Year races in Grammy history? Let’s take a look at the nominees and then see just how deserving each of these albums are in depth. Continue reading
It was always typical of the Grammy Awards that when considering the Record of the Year and Song of the Year contenders to draw similar conclusions between the near identical lists for the track categories. Every few years though we see two very different lists of songs in each category, ideally proving the difference between a big hit and a well written song. This year sees just one song appear in both categories, with two other artists submitted different tracks for Record than they did here. Only one can win on the night, will it be the same as I predicted for Record? Continue reading
2018 is one of the few year’s in recent memory when Best New Artist has been a pretty obvious collection of acts. Everyone here has garnered a nomination in at least one other category this year and with so much crossover between acts it’s a very difficult one to predict. Continue reading
I made a promise to myself this year that I would finally return to an in depth look at the nominees of the big 4 categories, weighing up the chances that each nominee has and sharing more of my personal opinions on how deserving each would be of the trophy on the night. First up is Record of the Year which for the first time in nearly 4 decades sees no female act nominated. Continue reading
In a year that saw some of my all time favourite acts make big comebacks, I take a look at the albums that made my year. 2017’s best albums features the likes of Jay-Z, Kelly Clarkson, Laura Marling and The xx. Continue reading
2017 was a fantastic year for singles. For every surprise #1 hit there were countless underrated songs that pushed an artist to the limit. I pick my favourites from familiar faces like Calvin Harris, Kendrick Lamar and Lorde, while newer acts like Dua Lipa and Stormzy make a huge impact. Continue reading
