Rather than create a Twitter thread this year, I thought it best to collate my Grammy Awards 2022 predictions here where I have written thousands of words about this award show before. There’s some commentary with some of the categories, but don’t be expecting much of this to be at all accurate, my track record …
Just over a year ago I completed my favourite blog series I’ve ever worked on. Over the course of 8 weeks I published an article every weekday counting down the top 40 biggest selling albums of all time in the UK. It was an opportunity to finally sit down and listen to classics like Brothers In Arms … Continue reading
Appearing both on her standout album Blackout and its follow up Circus, Radar’s journey to being released a a single was one that continues to baffle me to this day. The now infamous video that takes cues from Madonna’s Take A Bow ‘polo themed’ clip is hilarious given the thumping bass of the track. Continue reading
Following a summer of rising up the chart it became #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in a moment that baffled both those stateside and here in the UK where Jay Sean has never managed the same feat. In fact, for me it was interesting to note that Down is one of just a handful of songs from a UK act to reach the top spot overseas and not here. Continue reading
Pour It Up is probably the song that cemented the transition from the Pop bangers of old into the ‘new Rihanna’ that we saw release Anti earlier this year. It’s 2 minutes and 41 seconds of Rihanna grinding and wailing over a trap beat, but sometimes that’s all you need in life. Continue reading
There’s something so perfect about surrounding a dance record with strings. Release Me is a bombastic banger of a song, with huge vocals from Agnes and a throbbing bassline, but it remains classy throughout. Continue reading
Another year, another (hugely late) halftime report on next year’s Grammy Awards. There’s one very obvious contender for just about every possible award, but something tells me that it won’t be another clean sweep for the current reigning ‘Queen of the Grammys’ Adele. I take a very early look at some of the biggest contenders. Continue reading
By far the best ‘Shout out all of your names’ openings that pop music has seen in the last 10 years, Takin’ Back My Love is an underrated classic. Continue reading
I have been readying myself for Coldplay’s upcoming A Head Full of Dreams Tour since I bought tickets last year. As such, I thought it would be the perfect time to make a ranking of their best singles. I’ve only chosen singles that made the UK top 40, so any fans of Lost or The Hardest … Continue reading
Holiday isn’t just the peak of Dizzee Rascal’s crossover into the mainstream, but it’s also probably the breakthrough moment for the now global force of dance music Calvin Harris who wrote and produced the track. Continue reading
100 Plays Later is a series that is exactly how it sounds. I try to explain how I’ve managed to reach a century of plays on songs you may not even recognise. Or explain what it’s like to listen back to my favourite songs for the 238th time. G4L – Rihanna – 105 Plays Rated … Continue reading
