TUNE of Right Now: Give Me All Your Luvin’ (Feat. Nicki Minaj & M.I.A.) – Madonna
If I took into account the whole week that has just gone, my TUNE of the week should probably be Kelly Clarkson Stronger or Swedish House Mafia Antidote. But I knew what song would be on repeat by the weekend, Madonna’s latest being released just yesterday. While the song is by no means up there with her best work, it’s an undeniable tune, the LUV hook sticking in my head ever since I first heard the infamous demo leaked last year. Nicki Minaj delivers a short but brilliant verse, and I’m seeing the point of M.I.A.’s contribution more and more on repeated listens, but Madonna is the star and it’s great to have her back.
Album on Repeat: Born To Die – Lana Del Rey
Born To Die is the first great album of 2012. Last year I wasn’t involved in the pre album hype of Lana Del Rey, and didn’t give Video Games the time it needed for me truly ‘get’ what she was going for. Listening to the album, I couldn’t have been more off the mark with my view on Lana, this being the most over the top album I’ve heard since Janelle Monae’s Archandroid. Lana has a ridiculous vocal, not in the Jessie J school of over doing notes and ad libs, she instead uses parts of her voice that sound ugly on purpose, reaching for notes beyond her range to make sounds that echo next to production of the same quality. A truly intriguing album, and the best I’ve heard since Drake’s Take Care last November.
TV Show I’m Revisiting: Eureka
Over the past few week’s I’ve gone back to Eureka, the 10th best show of 2011 on my end of year list no less. I’m up to the final episode of Season 2 now and I’m loving it yet again. Characters like Jo Lupo and Nathan Stark are as enjoyable as ever, and they really shine in the early seasons. I’ve been watching episodes of Battlestar Galactica on and off too, but I chose Eureka this week as it has been my go to TV show for a little while.
