Kicking things off we have a re-entry at number 38 for 5 Seconds Of Summer with their debut sing She Looks So Perfect. The song entered the charts at number 1 11 weeks ago. A new entry from R3hab, Ummet Ozcan and NERVO follows at 37. Revolution is the first top 40 hit for the first two acts, but the second for NERVO who appeared on Like Home with Nicky Romero last year. The only new entry at the bottom end of the chart, Revolution benefits from a week of songs falling down the rankings.
The second new entry of the week comes courtesy of Wilkinson. He makes it to number 25 with Half Light. The song features Tom Cane and follows the number 8 hit Afterglow which featured vocals from The Voice alumnus Becky Hill. Wilkinson has had a hectic schedule of late, the DJ appearing at various festivals including Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Parklife.
Little Mix continue their ascent with current single Salute which they performed with Diversity on the Britain’s Got Talent final last night. The title track of their second album it rises to number 24 this week and looks set to rise even higher next week, currently residing in the top 10 on iTunes.
Kasabian make their return to the top 40 with eez-eh at 22, the first single from their 5th studio album 48:13 which is released tomorrow. The group’s 12th top 40 single and their first since 2011’s Days Are Forgotten, they will headline the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury later this month.
There’s not much upwards action on the rest of the chart, with just two more new entries outside of the top 10. Lethal Bizzle and Cherri Vocelle enter at number 20 with The Drop which becomes the former’s 9th top 40 hit. Despite so many appearances on the singles chart Lethal Bizzle has never reached the top 40 on the albums chart. The Neon Brotherhood enter at number 16 with Hope Ain’t A Bad Thing a charity single for the Teenage Cancer Trust to tie in with the recent story of Stephen Sutton which attracted hundreds of thousands of followers on social networks across the world. Coldplay also move up one place to number 13 with A Sky Full Of Stars.
Jason Derulo moves up to number 9 this week with Wiggle. The Snoop Dogg collaboration has gained traction on both sides of the Atlantic and gives Derulo his 9th top 10 hit in the UK. Snoop Dogg gains his 10th appearance in the top 10.
As expected, Ed Sheeran debuts at number 1 with Sing, the first single from his second album x. His first appearance at the top spot, it replaces I Wanna Feel by Secondcity which falls to number 3. Despite only having released one studio album Sing is Sheeran’s 14th appearance in the top 40 as well as his 7th top 10. Released in 2 weeks time x is set to debut strong on the albums chart, where it could become the fastest selling album of 2014 so far.
Predictions for next week:
Another easy pick for number 1, X Factor contestant Ella Henderson has been performing extremely well on preorders for Ghost and with the song way ahead on iTunes a number 1 next Sunday is a safe bet. Ed Sheeran should hold on near the top end of the chart, the other big new entry coming from Tiesto with Wasted. Little Mix could make it into the top 10 with Salute, while new entries from Skepta and Lil Wayne could impact lower down.
1) Ella Henderson – Ghost
2) Ed Sheeran – Sing
3) Sam Smith – Stay With Me
4) Tiesto – Wasted (Feat. Matthew Koma)
